BACKGROUND

Human-wildlife conflict is a major problem in wildlife conservation.
To mitigate human-wildlife conflict, it is important to response the conflict as fast as possible to prevent the retaliation killing. community patrol is an initiative that leads local people trained with necessary knowledge and equipment to mitigate human-wildlife conflict. This initiative is also allowing local people to get contact with wildlife officer faster too so that the conflict can be mitigated fast

DESCRIPTION

Voluntary groups to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts. the group were established to mitigate the conflict and also to inform the government if the conflict happens in their area. if there is no conflict the group acts as government volunteer for spreading news or making conservation is important issue in the community.

- report on wildlife conflict faster
- report on poaching and illegal activities t the officer


Advantages

  • - fast response to mitigate human-wildlife conflict

Disadvantages

  • - need a specific person to supervise and to encourage the team to continue doing volunteer work, and also keep conservation issue always become a 'hot topic' in the village

1. Agreement from the community to establish the team
2. Support from the head of the village(s) to establish such a team
3. All are voluntary based
4. Local and central government aware of the initiative
5. Local people aware of the team
6. Appropriate and enough training for the member of the team
