DESCRIPTION

The Kangal or Anatolian Shepherd is a breed of dog of Turkish origin. It has been used for thousands of years as a guard dog during the transhumance of cattle. It is a muscular, powerful race, with a large head and a robust body. The male measures between 80 and 100 cm at the withers and weighs between 70 and 90 kg. His physique is not his only asset against predators. In addition to being strong and fast (capable of making peaks up to 70 km/h), it is a particularly independent dog, responsible for guarding and capable of carrying out the tasks themselves, without human assistance. It is perfectly capable of adapting to several climates; hot as well as rigorous.

They are very protective and attached to their flock, be it
goats, cows or sheep. It will warn in case of danger or the presence of a predator which allows the shepherd who accompanies him to be able to act. The Kangal barks barely and especially wisely. These characteristics, genetic, morphological and behavioral, make him an indispensable asset.

It has thus been exported since the middle of the 20th century to different regions of the world in order to protect livestock from large carnivores. It is thus used today in Namibia against cheetahs, in France and in the United States against bears and wolves, and it is recently tested in French Guiana against jaguars and pumas.
